Medicine indicated in the treatment of diarrhea.
This medicine contains an active substance: diosmectite.
Diosmectite is a purified natural clay that covers the digestive mucosa.
Our advice in case of diarrhea:
This treatment is a complement to the dietetic rules:
- Rehydrate your body by drinking, salty or sweet drinks, to compensate fluid loss due to diarrhea (the average daily water intake for adults is 2 liters).
- Continue to eat during diarrhea. Avoid raw vegetables and fruits, green vegetables, spicy dishes, as well as frozen foods or drinks,
- Favor grilled meats and rice.
Indications for use :
Oral une only. Medicine reserved for adults and children over 2 years old.
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this notice or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if in doubt.
Treatment against diarrhea :
- Child from 2 years old: 4 sachets per day for 3 days then 2 sachets per day for 4 days.
- Adult: On average 3 sachets per day for 7 days. In practice, the dosage can be doubled at the start of treatment.
Children: the sachet powder can be diluted in a bottle of 50 ml of water to be distributed during the day, or mixed with a semi-liquid food.
Adults: the sachet powder can be diluted in half a glass of water.
Precautions for use :
If you take more Smecta 3g sachet than you should, it may cause constipation, which usually goes away when the dose is lowered or treatment is stopped.
If you forget to take Smecta, do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you forgot to take.
Do not take Smecta if you are allergic to diosmectitis or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Infants and children under 2 years old: this anti-diarrheal medicine should not be used.
Children over 2 years old: Smecta should only be used in the treatment of acute diarrhea (up to 7 days), in combination with the early administration of oral rehydration solution (ORS). All chronic use of Smecta should be avoided.
Adults: Prolonged or repeated use of Smecta is not recommended without medical advice.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Smecta 3g sachets : If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to certain sugars. This medicine contains two sugars (glucose and sucrose). Its use is not recommended in patients with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrase / isomaltase deficiency (rare hereditary diseases). If you have a history of severe constipation.
Consult your doctor:
In case of acute diarrhea, if your symptoms do not improve or get worse after 3 days of treatment.
If your digestive pain is associated with a fever or vomiting.
This medicine contains small amounts of ethanol (alcohol) of less than 100 mg per daily dose.
Other medicines and Smecta 3 g in sachet:
Taking this medicine may decrease the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time. No medicine should be taken at the same time as Smecta 3 g in sachet. You should space out taking Smecta 3 g in sachet from another medicine by more than 2 hours, if possible.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Pregnancy and breast feeding :
Smecta 3 g in sachet is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Smecta 3 g in sachet contains glucose and sucrose. If your doctor has informed you of an intolerance to certain sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine. Smecta contains 0.679 g of glucose per sachet.

The other ingredients are: Glucose monohydrate, sodium saccharin, orange flavor *, vanilla flavor **.
* Composition of the orange flavor: maltodextrin, sucrose, acacia (E414), mono and diacetyl tartaric esters of mono and diglycerides of fatty acids (E472e), silicon dioxide (E551), orange fragrance.
